This allowed them to track sleep onset and wake-up times accurately over a week. These participants also filled out questionnaires that included details on demographics, lifestyle, and health, which were followed up over an average period of 5.7 years to identify heart disease outcomes, including heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure.

The findings suggest that the best bedtime for heart health falls between 10 and 11 p.m. Participants who went to bed at or after midnight faced a significant increase in heart disease risk—up to 25% more likely. Conversely, those turning in before 10 p.m. were not far behind, displaying a 24% greater risk. Interestingly, this trend appeared to affect women more profoundly.
